How updating your training and qualifications can improve your chances of finding work

According to the latest report by Construction Skills Network (CNS) there will be a need for over a quarter of a million extra construction workers by 2026. The report highlights the recruitment and training challenges facing the industry to meet those demands.

It is suggested that the largest increase in demand will be for occupations within carpentry/joinery, and construction managers along with other technical roles (electronic technicians, civil engineer technicians, etc).

The construction industry has faced its challenges over the past 12 months with the rising cost of living, and the ongoing war in Ukraine causing supply chain disruption, but it is not slowing the industry down.

Knowing your industry

Knowledge of your sector is just as important as having the right training/qualifications and regardless of what sector you specialise in, by staying on top of industry news and trends you are gaining experience, identifying key changes, keeping up to date with legislation, and staying ahead of the competition.

Keeping your skills bank up to date

However, what about upskilling and re-training? As mentioned above, with over 250,000 extra construction workers needed in the next four years, there is going to be a huge recruitment drive for people to enter or move around within the construction industry.

If you able to get ahead of the game and start filling up your training repertoire up now, you are going to stand out when apply for jobs. By having the right qualifications for a job, you are already putting yourself in a better position than someone who has not got the same skills bank as you.

How to keep up to date

At Multitask Personnel we are partners with various local providers which allows us to provide subsidised training for those working in the construction and building services industries who want to upgrade their skills, re-qualify, or renew their existing qualifications.

Thanks to these close links, we can provide registered candidates with discounted training that suits their needs, enabling them to apply for vacancies that were previously unavailable to them.

We recommend that anyone looking to obtain a position, or change jobs, in the construction and building services, trades and M&E sectors should, if they haven’t already, consider registering with us.

This will enable us to identify suitable vacancies and the skills level required to carry out the job description. Should there be a need to upskill, we can then use our close links with training partners to source relevant, and in many cases, subsidised training support.
